Transformational Discipleship (TD) provides urban youth leaders with the tools necessary to develop ministries that foster the potential inherent in every adolescent. Based on the principle that each teenager uniquely reflects the image of God, this method emphasizes both personalization and intentionality. As young people gain a deeper understanding of their identity in Christ, notable changes appear, including strengthened faith, integrity, and a dedication to serving others with resolve and purpose. This approach gives youth supportive spaces to share questions and challenges, guided by mentors who help connect faith to everyday life. Urban teenagers are not problems in need of being “fixed” but leaders in the making. Meet Ted Travis, MDiv, DMin
An accomplished author, speaker, leader’s coach, and musician, Ted Travis has dedicated his life and ministry to transforming the lives of at-risk youth. Born in a low-income community on Long Island, New York, Ted’s journey led him to study voice in Vienna, Austria, where he found faith in Christ, setting the stage for his lifelong mission. Settling in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood, he spent over three decades directing youth ministries and developing Transformational Discipleship. This powerful approach empowers young people to explore their identity and purpose in Christ. As the founder of the Center for Transformational Discipleship, Ted equips youth workers with the tools needed to foster leadership and drive positive change in under-resourced communities. His groundbreaking work is chronicled in his book, “Building Cathedrals: Urban Youth Discipleship That Works.” Ted holds a Master of Divinity from Denver Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Bakke Graduate University. He has served on several boards, including Denver Seminary, the Christian Community Development Association, and iTEE Global. Residing in Denver, Colorado, with his wife, Shelly, Ted continues to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders who are passionate about transforming their communities.
